What is a CIBSE Building Physics Specialist?

A professional certification developed in alignment with CIBSE's Technical memoranda:
CIBSE TM54: 2022 Evaluating operational energy use at the design stage, CIBSE TM61:2020 Operational Performance of Buildings, CIBSE TM63: 2020 Operational Performance, Modelling for evaluation of energy in use, and CIBSE A11: 2015 Building Performance Modelling and associated competency framework.

Eligibility Criteria

Expertise in CIBSE guidance: CIBSE TM54: 2022 Evaluating operational energy use at the design stage, CIBSE TM61:2020 Operational Performance of Buildings, CIBSE TM63: 2020 Operational Performance, Modelling for evaluation of energy in use, and CIBSE A11: 2015 and demonstrated competence in the use of modelling software.

  • Successful completion of the CIBSE Certification's test of understanding (TOU) covering requirements from CIBSE TM54:2022, CIBSE TM61:2020, CIBSE TM63:2020 and CIBSE AM11:2015.
  • Successful demonstration of competence in the use of modelling software.

 

This will appeal to individuals with modelling experience and exposure to a wide range of relevant CIBSE’s technical memoranda and is mandatory for certification and scheme registration. The TOU and software evaluation criteria are currently under development.

 

While not mandatory for certification, interested parties can assess their knowledge of CIBSE’s “Evaluating operational energy use at the design stage” in buildings through demonstration of knowledge and methodologies outlined in CIBSE TM54 (2022).
