NABERS UK Webinar with the City of London
Last week we hosted a webinar with the City of London Planning team.
We were delighted with the large attendance at the webinar, where the City of London's requirements around NABERS UK DfP agreements were introduced. We provided an overview of CIBSE Certification and the NABERS UK scheme, along with the key milestones along the way — from registering on the NABERS UK Register and setting target ratings, through the Independent Design Review (IDR) Panel process, to Design Reviewed and Certified Ratings.
Key Lessons Learnt:
- Policy not just best practise - Under the City's Planning for Sustainability SPD, new office developments are expected to target a 5-star NABERS UK rating, with major refurbishments at 4-star.
- NABERS UK closes the performance gap - NABERS UK rates actual metered energy use once a building is operational.
- Early engagement is key - bringing NABERS UK into the conversations at planning stage is important to the overall sustainability aspects of projects.
- Timing flexibility is built in – the process allows for practical flexibilities along the way, which was one of the most useful takeaways for teams planning their project timelines.
