Independent Design Review (IDR) Panel

The NABERS UK Independent Design Review Panel consists of industry experts in both the energy efficient design and operation of office buildings and plays a leading role in upskilling the commercial real estate sector and reliably delivering energy efficient buildings.

Design for Performance is part of the NABERS UK rating scheme, administered by CIBSE, in partnership with NABERS and the Better Buildings Partnership. All projects registered under the framework must procure an Independent Design Review (IDR) to assess how likely the project is to achieve its operational energy target.

The Independent Design Review Panel acts as a procurement framework panel for shortlisted suppliers who have the necessary skills to be able to undertake an Independent Design Review for any project. Independent Design Reviews can only be undertaken by those on the Panel.

Candidates have gone through a rigorous training and assessment programme led by the Better Buildings Partnership and delivered by technical experts Paul Bannister at Delta Q and Robert Cohen at Verco.

Panelists are responsible for reviewing a variety of new project designs in the UK and freely share ideas, concepts and solutions with design teams. Beyond the impact panel members will have on individual projects, it is anticipated that the panel will have a significant indirect benefit to how energy efficiency is approached within design across the wider industry.

By having oversight into many developments, it is hoped the Panel will be able to disseminate best-practice to a wider range of design consultancies at a faster rate than would be otherwise possible through the natural osmosis of design ideas.
