- Undertake training in the government requirements for assessing a complex air conditioning system from CIBSE Professional Learning. Full details on course content, dates and booking from the Air Conditioning Inspector Training page on the main CIBSE website.
- Download the National Occupational Standards (NOS) document to provide evidence that you satisfy the competence criteria in the APEL form (step 3.)
- Download and fill in this Accreditation of Prior Learning (APEL) form, making reference to the NOS in step 2.
- Download Table of professional bodies and membership grades meeting the professional requirements of Units 1 and 2 of the NOS.
- Download CCMP 006 CIBSE Certification Code of Conduct for Energy Assessors
- Submit your certificate from your training course to CIBSE Certification at

along with:
- your APEL application form
- evidence of your PII cover
- copy of your CV
- details of CPD undertaken in the last two years
- evidence of your professional membership (if any)
- If you are already competent without further training simply submit your application form demonstrating your competence along with the other documentation listed above. CIBSE Certification will contact you with information about your admission to the register. You will not be asked for three Air Conditioning Advisory Reports in advance for assessment as the first three that you produce once qualified will be evaluated according to the CLG rules.

When is an air-conditioning inspection required?
Air-conditioning systems over 250kW rated output must be inspected by an accredited Air-conditioning Inspector no later than 4th January 2009. All other systems over 12kW rated output must be inspected no later than 4th January 2011.
