Steps to become a CIBSE Low Carbon Energy Assessor to produce Display Energy Certificates (DECs)

- Undertake training dependent on whether or not you are already a member of the CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant's Register...go to main CIBSE website for details of training. This training is applicable in England and Wales only, not Scotland.
- Download the National Occupational Standard (NOS) for to provide evidence that you satisfy the competence criteria in the APEL form (step 3.)
- Download and fill in this Accreditation of Prior Learning (APEL) form, making reference to the NOS in step 2.
- Download Table of professional bodies and membership grades meeting the professional requirements of Units 1 and 2 of the NOS.
- Download CCMP 006 Code of Conduct for Energy Assessors
- Supply evidence of CPD over a 2 year period and CV...go to CPD page for details
- Submit your certificate from your LCC examinations and/or top-up training to CIBSE Certification along with evidence of your PI cover and a signed copy of the scheme code of conduct and evidence of your professional membership.
- CIBSE Certification will contact you with information about your admission to the LCEA register
- You will then need to submit a further completed DEC for assessment before you can be accredited as an EA. (If your software exam only included one example DEC then you will need to submit two further DECs. The CIBSE exam already includes two example DECs, and so if you have taken this route then you only need submit one further DEC.)
- All documentation can be sent electronically to CIBSE Certification by email

Note: If you want to produce Display Energy Certificates you need to be qualified in producing operational ratings using a simple calculation methodology which will soon be available from the Government. DEC producing Low Carbon Energy Assessors will be on the LCC Operation register.
